AATA2024: Virtual Conference Session (Day 2)

Three panelists will describe their contributions to the second edition of the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale (FEATS) including the literature review, the revised scales, additional chapters, and the children’s section.

This presentation will provide attendees with information about major types of neural processing necessary for making unconscious material available to conscious awareness. The Expressive Therapies Continuum will be explored as a framework for developing treatment that is consistent with these processes for the purpose of reconciling cognitive/ affective/behavioral issues.

The use of sidewalk chalk as a medium holds great therapeutic value to the developing child's creativity and ability to play. The therapeutic, kinesthetic, social/interpersonal, and psychological areas within childhood development can be addressed with the inclusion of sidewalk chalk as a catalyst for creativity. This course explores sidewalk chalk within the aspect of play, provides adaptive techniques and discusses intervention techniques within the school setting.

An altered book provides both pictorial and sculptural expression and has the sequential character of a narrative for story-telling. The author sharesher own personal altered book of her cancer journey and read excerpts from her written journal to compare visual and verbal creative expression of emotionally-laden material.
