Description
An altered book provides both pictorial and sculptural expression and has the sequential character of a narrative for story-telling. The author shares her own personal altered book of her cancer journey and read excerpts from her written journal to compare visual and verbal creative expression of emotionally-laden material.

Dr. Harriet Wadeson
Harriet Wadeson, PhD, LCSW, ATR-BC, HLM, began her career at NIH in 1961, established and directed the Art Therapy Graduate Program at the University of Illinois for 23 years, published 6 books, 70 papers, and chapters in psychology texts. Honors include Honorary Life Member, of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), Rush Award from the American Psychiatric Association, Resolution of Commendation from the Illinois Legislature, 1st prize for research from the American Art Therapy Association, 1st prize for American Art Therapy Association’s Institute for Continuing Education in Art Therapy (ICE/AT)Page 36art from the Smithsonian Institute, and numerous other art awards. Dr. Wadeson passed away in 2016.
