
NY-RE-13 - Do Graduate Students’ Mandalas Exhibit Archetypal Patterns Based on Kellogg's MARI®?
This research investigated whether a “mandala set” (N = 143) drawn by art therapy graduate students (n = 36) depict archetypal patterns and stages as defined by Kellogg's Great Round of archetypal stages in mandalas in the MARI® and if these patterns relate to significant events in their lives.

Dr. Renée van der Vennet
Professor, Nazareth College
Renée van der Vennet has a Ph.D. in Human Services specializing in Professional Counseling from Capella University.
She is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) (NY), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) (NY), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) (TX) and a LPC approved supervisor (LPC-S) (TX), a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist Supervisor (ATR-BC-S), and a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP).
She is currently a tenured Professor in the Creative Arts Therapy Department at Nazareth College where she has been employed since 2008. She is also the graduate art therapy program director in the Creative Arts Therapy Department. She has been a practicing art therapist for a variety of populations in a range of facilities in Texas and New York. Her research interests include the areas of mandalas and the reduction of anxiety, archetypes, dreams, creativity and creative processes, process and product painting, and the artist’s identity for the art therapist.
She is the chair of the Education Committee of the American Art Therapy Association. She is also on the Research Committee and the Education Committee of the American Art Therapy Association.
