NY-ES-350 - The Ekphrastic Encounter: When Poetry Meets Art

The phenomenological experience of writing and reading poetry in response to visual art can aid in self-reflection and self-reflexivity. Using the close reading method of narrative medicine, this presentation will discuss the practice of ekphrasis and how it can be used in art therapy group supervision and education settings.

Nancy Choe

Nancy is a licensed psychotherapist and art therapist practicing in Los Angeles. As a narrative medicine practitioner. Nancy explores narrative medicine techniques with art therapy-based interventions to acknowledge and act on the stories of self, others, and communities. She is a doctoral candidate in Art Therapy Psychology and has a special interest in arts-based research studies.
