N/NY-MS-211 - Challenges and Adaptations When Working with Pediatric Burn Patients

A therapist’s role when functioning on a treatment team supporting a burn patient may require advocacy on the part of the clinician, as well as adapting therapeutic interventions. Understanding the psychosocial and developmental needs of pediatric burn patients requires a trauma-informed approach to improve upon Art Therapy interventions.

Kaley Wajcman

Art Therapist

Children's Mercy Network

Kaley is an art therapist born in raise in Kansas City.

With a passion for creative arts, Kaley is confident that through a supportive art therapy experience, just about anybody can find a medium that they feel speaks to them and through which they can learn so much about themselves.

Kaley has a passion for all kinds of creative DIY in her spare time, of which there seems to be very little in this season of life. But most of all, she gets the most joy out of sharing her passion for process art making with her 3 kids. This is where she will often explore new materials and processes for which she then implements with her pediatric patients at Children's Mercy Hospital.

Kaley has previously worked with older adults at multiple long-term care facilities, leads intergenerational community art workshops, and was the art therapist at an outpatient mental health clinic.

Currently, as the sole art therapist for the Children's Mercy network - Kaley works with inpatients as well as individuals in the Rehabilitation for Amplified Pain Syndrome.
