N/NY-0715 - More than a Cursory Glance: Particularizing Pornography and Finding Meaning

Description

Problems related to pornography are increasingly commonplace in contemporary clinical practice. It has never been more important for therapists who work symbolically and artistically to take seriously the clinical issues related to pornography. This course uses rich case material to “particularize”rather than generalize about pornography and porn use.

Learning Objectives
    1. Describe at least three negative effects of pornography use.
    2. Define the difference between "particularizing" an image and generalizing (or pre-emptively symbolizing).
    3. Discuss at least three ways therapists can help clients understand their porn use and make meaning.
