Description

Literature is replete with research and information about children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Yet these children grow up to be adults. There is a paucity of literature regarding adults with ASD. Evidence-based research on structured art therapy groups with young adults with ASD will be presented.

Learning Objectives
    1. Increase their knowledge about neurological research and lifelong issues concerning adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
    2. Learn about psychiatric co-morbidities common for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, services offered, and medications used.
    3. Recognize effective art therapy interventions for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

    Beth Gonzalez-Dolginko, EdD, ATR-BC, LCAT, LP is an art therapist for 45 years, in academia for 28 years and in clinical and private practice for 36 years, with children and adults in the areas of psychiatry, addictions, aging, PTSD, chronic illness, special education, developmental disabilities and child development. Beth serves on the NYS Office of the Professions for Mental Health Practitioners Board.
