This presentation will detail the advocacy efforts to obtain art therapy
licensure in a rural plains state in the U.S. This will include the impact of
social entrepreneurship and social capital, the engagement of allied
professionals and agencies, and details of legislative process.

Jessica Stallings

Jessie Woolhiser Stallings ATR-BC, LIMHP, LPC, LMHC is the clinical director for a large nonprofit serving the Omaha metro area. Jessie also teaches undergraduate art therapy classes for the University of Nebraska Omaha. Jessie was instrumental in the Nebraska Art Therapy Licensure Coalition's successful licensure bid, and as of 2025 Nebraska has an art therapy specific certification/licensure.


Jessie is also the author of Special Interests in Art Therapy With Autistic People: A Neurodiversity-Positive Approach to Empower and Engage Participants published in 2022 by Jessica Kingsley Publishers based on her extensive experience working with people with Autism. Jessie is a late identified adult with ADHD and is working to center neurodiversity positive methods in our field.

Yasmin Henderson

ATR-BC, LIMHP, LPC, LADC


Yasmin Henderson, ATR-BC, LIMHP, LPC, LADC, is a nationally board-certified registered art therapist and the owner and founder of Creative Counseling and Studio in Omaha, Nebraska- an art therapy mental health private practice. As the only Black art therapist in the state, she has been a tireless advocate for the field, helping to secure art therapy licensure in Nebraska and expand access to culturally responsive mental health care. Yasmin has also contributed to the field’s scholarship, co-authoring a chapter in Social Entrepreneurship in Art Therapy: Creative Changemakers in Action (Routledge, 2025). Alongside her clinical and advocacy work, Yasmin serves as an adjunct instructor at several universities, teaching courses in introduction to art therapy, clinical supervision, and multicultural counseling. She is also the co-founder of Inclusive Healers of the Heartland, a nonprofit providing multicultural mental health online continuing education training, and co-leads the Private Practice Academy Midwest, where she coaches other counselors on building sustainable, values-driven practices. With over a 20 years of social services and 10 years of experience as a clinician, educator, and entrepreneur, Yasmin continues to empower communities, mentor future leaders, and champion art therapy as a force for systemic and personal transformation.

Jenelle Miller

MS, LIMHP, ATR


Jenelle Miller, MS, LIMHP, ATR, is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner and Registered Art Therapist who uses her therapeutic approach to help transform her local community. She is a compassionate leader and advocate for vulnerable populations, serving as the Senior Director of Programs at the Open Door Mission in Omaha, NE. Known for her dedication and compassionate approach, she has helped expand access to essential services, build community partnerships, and implement innovative support programs that have positively impacted numerous lives. Outside of work, she finds joy in spending time with her husband, Noah, and their baby boy, David-Luke, and their Labradooble, Bonnie, embracing the balance between family life and her commitment to making a meaningful social impact.
