AATA's Provider Status

Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB)

All educational sessions sponsored by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) are accepted for continuing education by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).

National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)

American Art Therapy Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5760. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. American Art Therapy Association is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

Licensed Creative Arts Therapists (LCATs) in New York

AATA is also approved by the State of New York as a provider of continuing education for Licensed Creative Arts Therapists (LCATs) in New York.

Please refer to the session number that can be found in the course catalog to determine which sessions are eligible for NBCC and/or New York LCAT continuing education. Session numbers that begin with an "N" are eligible for continuing education through NBCC, and session numbers that begin with “NY” are eligible for continuing education through New York for LCATs. [Example: N/NY - RE1234]. It is each attendee's responsibility to determine whether her or his licensing or credentialing body will accept the American Art Therapy Association's continuing education.

Determining Course Eligibility

Refer to the session number in the course's title to determine which sessions qualify for various continuing education bodies.

  • NBCC- Session numbers that begin with an "N" qualify for NBCC credit. [Example: N-0100]
  • NY State –Session numbers that begin with an “NY” qualify for New York State LCAT credit. [Example: NY-0312]
  • ATCB- Accepts all AATA Courses offered in the catalog.

It is each attendee's responsibility to determine whether her or his licensing or credentialing body will accept the American Art Therapy Association's continuing education.

Certificates and Hours

The designated number of continuing education clock hours will be awarded to participants upon the successful completion of the online test. Participants may repeat the course as many times as is necessary to achieve completion. To receive the Certificate of Completion, participants must correctly answer 100 percent of the questions.

Upon successful completion, participants can download, view and/or print copies of their Certificates which can be accessed through the Dashboard.
