[Self-Study] Art Therapy Supervision:  Ethics, Liability, and Recordkeeping

Part three of our three-part 2023 Supervision Series.

In this third session, the presenters will discuss identifying ethical dilemmas and evaluating the difference between ethics, legal issues, and professional liability. Participants will learn about clinical documentation, art material presentation, and problematic dynamics within supervision.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

1) Identify liability factors in the supervisor relationship.
2) Identify essential elements of record keeping.
3) Describe the ethical guidelines pertaining to supervision and continuing education.
4) Recognize supervisory pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Dr. Margaret Carlock

ATCS, ATR-BC, EdD, LCAT

Dr. Margaret Carlock is an art therapist with over 28 years of experience working with individuals and groups. Much of her career has been focused on increasing accessibility to art therapy services to the public and creating creative arts based programs in a wide variety of settings, including schools, after school programs, day programs, community based mental health, memory care, assisted living, and most recently, she developed Chroma Soul Arts, an organization focused on providing community groups, workshops, and retreats, for individuals seeking social connection, self-care, and wellness based creative arts opportunities. She is an experienced art therapy and expressive arts therapy educator, with more than 23 years of teaching and directing higher education programs.

Nicole Randick

ATR-BC-S, PSC, REAT, LPC

Dr. Nicole Randick is a Registered and Board-Certified Art Therapist Supervisor (ATR-BC-S), Licensed School Counselor (PSC), Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She has over 20 years of experience in the field as an art therapist and as a supervisor. She is well-published and has presented at state and national conferences on wellness, expressive arts, and school mental health. Nicole provides supervision for internship students and post gradates.
